It's true. Mackinaw City does (for the most part) shut down for the winter months, but when it does, it also lights up for the Holidays. It's kind of Santa's Secret. Not many people know that the town comes back to life with splashes of color from decorations that line the streets. It's a great visual treat that helps remove the starkness of winter and it makes you feel warm despite freezing temperatures. Comments are closed.

The dormant dunes.
This is in an area north of Oval Beach. Most people do not go to this area because the trails disappear, and there are a lot of bogs. You can easily be knee deep in muck if you don't know where to walk.
