Sturgeon Point, Alpena & Presque Isle

4/13/2025

Some of Michigan's Northeastern coastline can be considered remote, but these areas are rich in history, beautiful views, and immense tranquility.  Lake Huron hugs the coastline and seems more tranquil, and alluring compared to its rowdy and moody sister to the west (Lake Michigan.) Lake Huron has turquoise and often blue clear water, but the warmth of her personality is in contrast to the cold water that has contributed to this section of Michigan's nickname of "Shipwreck Alley."

    The Dormant Dunes
The dormant dunes. This is in an area north of Oval Beach. Most people do not go to this area because the trails disappear, and there are a lot of bogs. You can easily be knee deep in muck if you don't know where to walk.
